"Sailing. It's who we are. It's what we do."
Located on the Detroit River since 1915, Bayview Yacht Club is a premier Great Lakes sailing club, hosting the annual Bayview Mackinac Race and local sailing events including youth and adult classes.
Our Members
BYC’s roughly 900 members span the ages of 12 to 97 with more than 80 percent residing in Michigan and about half the total Membership in Detroit, the Grosse Pointes or St. Clair Shores.
Bayview’s Membership actively races sailboats and volunteers at events on the Detroit River, throughout the Great Lakes and nationally, and about a third participate in the annual Bayview Mackinac Race, where they are joined at the island by family and friends for the best regatta party in sailing.
BYC Members include Olympians and America’s Cup winners, women and youth champions, weeknight and weekend warriors, and volunteers who support all facets of the racing efforts.
Many of our Members are lifelong sailors or from multi-generational sailing families, while others took up the sport as adults. For newcomers, Bayview’s youth and community sailing programs introduce dozens of new people to the sport each season through Team Bayview Junior Sailing, Adult-Learn-to-Sail Programs and Hitchhiker Thursdays.
Our Clubhouse
The newly renovated, 12,000-square-foot Clubhouse is the only restaurant in the city offering true waterfront dining, and its multiple event spaces accommodate audiences of up to 250 people for meetings, weddings, seminars and other gatherings.
Our Events
Throughout the year, Bayview hosts sailing clinics and regattas – some specifically for women and youth – winter seminars for all ages, and numerous social events for Members and guests including the Ladies Fashion Show, which is hosted by the commodore’s spouse and raises funds for local non-profits.
