"Sailing. It's who we are. It's what we do."
BYC’s roughly 900 members span the ages of 12 to 97 with more than 80 percent residing in Michigan and about half the total Membership in Detroit, the Grosse Pointes or St. Clair Shores.
Bayview’s Membership actively races sailboats and volunteers at events on the Detroit River, throughout the Great Lakes, nationally, and internationally. Several members are involved with US Sailing, the sport’s governing body, and the Detroit Regional Yacht-racing Association, which administers and promotes racing in southeast Michigan.
In 2024, about a third of the Membership competed in the annual Bayview Mackinac Race, with dozens more volunteering as Race Committee.
BYC Members include Olympians and America’s Cup winners, women and youth champions, weeknight and weekend warriors, and volunteers who support all facets of the racing efforts.
